Mac Jones is a Top 10 QB in the Playoffs

The definitive 2022 NFL Playoff QB Rankings

  1. Tom Brady

  2. Aaron Rodgers

  3. Patrick Mahomes

  4. Dak Prescott

  5. Matthew Stafford

  6. Kyler Murray

  7. Joe Burrow

  8. Josh Allen

  9. Jimmy Garoppolo

  10. Mac Jones

  11. Derrick Carr

  12. Ryan Tannehill

  13. Ben Roethlisburger

  14. Jalen Hurts

The case for Mac Jones at 10:

Jalen Hurts just isn’t as good. Here’s the stats

3,144 Yards. 61% completion. 16 TD. 9 INT. 87.2 rating.

The Eagles are probably the worst team in the playoffs led by the worst QB. It makes sense they line up for Brady in his annual Tomato can game.

Ben Roethlisburger is a Hall of Famer and an accused rapist. He’s also cashed as an NFL QB. He probably has a couple throws left in him, but I doubt the Chiefs give him a chance to prove it. Here’s the stats

3,740 Yards. 64.5% Completion. 22 TD. 10 INTs. 86.8 rating.

The Steelers have not looked like a playoff team for most of the season. If Ben was 1/2 of his prior self they could be making some noise, but with this more fat, limp armed version, the Steelers aren’t going any where.

Ok, Ryan Tannehill may raise some eye brows. Yes, he his team has had success, but his improved play is skewed because of how bad he was in Miami. Ryan Tannehill is shitty mistake in a big spot away waiting to happen. He’s a guy who lost to the Jets this year. His statistics are very close to Mac’s. Here’s the stats

3734 Yards. 67% Completion. 21 TD. 14 INTs. 89.6. rating

Mac Jones Stats

3801 Yards. 68% Completion. 22 TD. 13 INTs. 92.5 rating

Well there ya have it. The numbers don’t lie. However, it’s not where story ends. Because although the numbers are similar the players are not. Ryan Tannehill is shitty mistake in a big spot away waiting to happen. He’s a guy who lost to the Jets this year. He’s a 9 year veteran who has never completely eliminated his bad habits.

Mac Jones is a rookie who has proven above all else he is tough. Physically and mentally. Mac rarely makes the same mistake twice. He may have plateaued his advancement this season, but based on the two track records I trust Mac Jones to simply fuck up less in a big spot. Hell, maybe he takes a step forward instead of not losing the game he produced some plays that win the Patriots a playoff game for the 1st time since beating the Rams in Super Bowl LIII.

And here’s the big stretch: Derek Carr. Here’s the stats

4804 Yards. 68% Completion. 23 TD. 14 INTs. 94 rating.

If not for that last game with the Chargers, this wouldn’t be that close. There has been something a little different in Carr’s game this year. Feels like he is coming through more in big spots. That’s the difference maker for me between Carr, Mac, and Tannehill. Tannehill blows in those situations, Carr usually blows but can surprise you, and Mac is mostly untested. I’m leaning towards the unknown and the upside in Mac here.
