Why was Malcolm Butler benched?
The question that has been haunting Patriots fans for years. In a game where the Patriots secondary couldn’t stop a nose bleed from Big Dick Nick’s massive schnoz, Malcolm Butler, the hero of Super Bowl XLIX and the team’s best CB, sat idly by.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said his lack of playing time was a "coach's decision," and not due to disciplinary issues as many have speculated. When asked about the benching at the time, Butler stated "I don't know what it was. I guess I wasn't playing [well] or they didn't feel comfortable. SOURCE
Speculation roared it’s ugly head in many directions following the loss to the Eagles. There were stories about how he arrived late to a meeting, was out partying, violating team rules, got sick, got into fistacuffs at practice.
According to Wickersham, Butler had a heated exchange with then-Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia during practice, leading to Butler's demotion. Patricia was not happy with Butler's effort on the practice field and let the cornerback know it, which led to the blowout between the two. SOURCE
Well, Malcom is about to spill some tea apparently with a new documentary and a book. I think if he needed the money this bad, Belichick just would have given him that last contract to avoid a public outing. C’est la vie, Malcolm.
Before you go please allow me to present another, some would say juicy hypothesis regarding the infamous benching of Malcolm Butler. I propose it’s a love story. One not told nearly enough in this day and age and certainly not in the world of professional football. It involves scandal, lust, butt play, yes, perhaps love.
What if instead of a heated exchange with Patricia as reported by Seth Wickersham it was a heated exchange with another coach? With an entirely different kind of heat?

It’s a MASSIVE cover up. The likes of Marylin Monroe and JFK, Monica and Bill, or the entire Catholic church through the 80’s. I like to think this one time passionate affair still sits ablaze in the thrawls of rear end servicing, however on the down low it may remain. Perhaps instead of tearing down an already wounded Belichick coaching staff this documentary will celebrate the greatest untold Love Story we have yet to experience. Congrats you two crazy kids!
