Can Mac Jones save Belichick’s Bacon?

Cam Newton fucked up. Spare me the bleeding heart my body my choice or the ‘Merica, I have rights! Bull shit when it comes to Newton and his “personal decision” not to get vaccinated. I don’t care if he gets vaccinated. But, he should if he wants to play football in the NFL.

His “personal decision” affects a lot people professionally if he doesn’t. If he wants to make it about him, fine. But how the fuck do you run a football team where your starting QB is one trip to Wendy’s away from being out for a week on a regular basis?

The NFL has made their stance on vaccinations very clear. The protocols and policies put in place were agreed upon by owners and the players. If you don’t like the rules. You don’t have to play.

But let’s skip the should or shouldn’t he get vaccinated for now. He at least shouldn’t be dumb enough to break whatever protocol the Patriots claimed to be a “misunderstanding”. They are covering for him. Make no mistake about it, he fucked this up. And that’s bad for him, but it’s also bad for Bill.

Per sources, there is a level of frustration internally with the Cam Newton situation. One important member of the organization believes this has "opened" a window of opportunity for rookie Mac Jones. The team practices today and then with the NYG tomorrow b4 Newton can return.

This is the basket Bill decided to lay his eggs. This was Bill’s guy. This was his pick for the starting QB of The New England Patriots to follow in the foot steps of Tom Brady. And your guy is getting loose with Covid Protocols two seasons in a row? Costing him important time with the offense he has yet to grasp? Not a great look!

I mean, you let Tom Brady walk with ZERO succession plan. Instead of signing a capable veteran to come in for a year or two and at least steady the ship, Bill waited until every single fucking team in the NFL looked at, interviewed, and passed on the corpse of ex-MVP Cam Newton. That’s not exactly Joe Montana to Steve Young. But, fine. You are Bill Belichick let’s see what you can do with him. Short answer, not much. Cam Newton was the 29th ranked QB last year. So let’s bring him back!?

The failed attempt at prying Garrapolo from San Fransisco for months in the off season is all you need to know about how Bill truly feels about Newton. I don’t know why he can’t quit him though. Stubbornness? Ego? It sure as shit ‘aint the tape. Signing Cam Newton and sticking with him will go down as one of the worst moves as a GM Bill has ever made, if not the worst. But, that could all be put to rest if the #15 over all pick can step in and save Billy’s bacon.

Now it’s the Mac Jones show. 41 snaps Tuesday all with the 1’s and against the 1’s. Results were mixed. The good was good. The bad was, well he’s a rookie.

Mac Jones was 31/40 with 2 INTs. He was 25/32 with both picks in 11-on-11s vs the starting defense. Largely sharp. First pick was a bad throw behind Olszewski, tipped by J.C. Jackson, INT’d by McCourty. Second INT, gotta-have-it rep, Jackson ran a better slant route than Gunner.

Belichick should be praying to his god Lawrence Taylor that Mac Jones steps up. Bill needs success at the QB position and he needs it in a big way. He really needs that success to come from Mac Jones for the transition from the greatest player ever to resemble something close to a win. In the Brady vs. Bill debate Bill is the one still in Foxboro. He needs to prove the Kraft’s decision was right. This is always going to be a “what have you done for me lately” league. Mac Jones needs to be the future.

UPDATE: Mac is making his move in Wednesday’s joint practice with the Giants.

Mac Jones just threw back-to-back TDs and is 21 of 23 so far in practice against the Giants starting defense. He’s completed 14 consecutive passes.

If Mac Jones can play this year on a winning team in the playoffs and look like a professional NFL QB. It’s a win. And Bill needs it because the flip side is Mac Jones sucks and you’re stuck with Cam. Who sucks too, but again was Bill’s guy. And again, he’s not in practice this week because, again he’s selfish or dumb or both.

If Cam is under center this whole year the Patriots most likely will underachieve after spending $250 million in Free Agency while Brady is still the odds on favorite to win the whole damn thing again. That is a catastrophic, legacy altering failure for Belichick. Never mind the fact it’s setting the Patriots organization back 25 years. If I’m thinking about it you know the Kraft’s are thinking about it. Brady vs. Bill is very real in a lot of people’s eyes. Most importantly the Krafts.

So, here’s to Mac slinging it around the yard and breakfast for dinner.
