Bo Knows

In full transparency I am working off a lot of contrarian spit with this take. Dr. Big Mac and Chief Bobby were a big fat no on the Heisman runner up, Bo Nix therefore I’m a yes.

I don’t know shit about college football other than the fact that it ruined NFL football. The spread offense is the worst thing to happen to football since OJ. It has created a lack of attention to game planning on both sides of the ball, but specifically offense. The game has turned into high powered athletes playing pick up ball essentially. But, when in Rome and in desperate need for a QB, do as the Romans do. Just not too early.

I’m officially out on the “top tier” of QBs in this draft. Specifically Caleb Williams (Bitch), Drake Maye (ACC gym class hero), Jayden Daniels (Another Athlete pretending to play QB), Michael Pennix JR. (Throws funny, afraid of the rush) . All are expected to be taken top 10. I’m out. So who’s left?

JJ McArthy. Chief Bobby Buckaki, our college football expert and Michigan super fan has tried to talk us into JJ and nearly did. Until we saw him play. He blows. AJ McCarron with out the girlfriend. Enter Bo Nix.

PFF has him ranked as the 5th best QB and 22nd over all.

5. QB BO NIX, OREGON

BIG BOARD RANK: 22

Below are highlights from his scouting report

SCOUTING REPORT: STRENGTHS

  • He demonstrates pro-level aptitude in key QB fundamentals: thrives under empty sets, executes with precision during two-minute drills, and showcases mobility outside the pocket.

  • Nix has an innate ability to extend plays under duress, making off-schedule plays when things break down.

  • His pocket mobility is top-tier, consistently evading the pass rush while keeping his eyes downfield, making him a threat in RPO (run-pass option) situations.

  • Nix manipulates defenses with his eyes, effectively holding safeties and linebackers to create passing lanes. Delivers the ball with zip, especially when threading the needle against tight coverage.

  • Nix's release is compact and quick, allowing him to get the ball out with timing and rhythm, especially in short to intermediate throws.

  • As a ball-carrier, Nix displays a good blend of agility and burst, making defenders miss in space. His dual-threat capability demands defensive game-planning.

  • Nix's combination of athleticism and arm talent provides a solid foundation for NFL offenses to craft schemes around his strengths.

SCOUTING REPORT: WEAKNESSES

  • While Nix has shown growth, inconsistencies still exist. His footwork can become jittery under pressure, resulting in erratic throws not attributed to arm talent limitations.

  • His reliance on sideline cues before snaps raises questions about his ability to helm a complex NFL offense independently.

  • Nix needs to refine his game processing. He can telegraph primary reads, and his hesitancy during receiver breaks can lead to missed opportunities. This also extends to deep routes, where despite having the arm strength, he often hesitates.

  • His perception of oncoming pressure is inconsistent, impacting pocket discipline. A more reliable sense of incoming threats is crucial for his professional growth.

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY

Bo Nix entered the collegiate ranks with sky-high expectations, securing the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2019 and was heralded as a five-star recruit. His tape at Auburn showcases his prototypical size and arm cannon, both key assets for the next level. Nix's footwork and mobility allow him to extend plays outside the pocket, and his arm talent, especially off-platform throws, is evident. However, his on-field IQ needs polishing. He occasionally displays sloppy mechanics and lacks pocket awareness, leading to questionable decisions under duress. Furthermore, he locks onto primary reads and struggles with progression. But, with a year of solid tape and growth in his decision-making, there's no doubt Nix can move into first-round discussions for NFL teams seeking a QB with raw, moldable talent.

Am I a little concerned he couldn’t hack it in the SEC and is now blowing doors at as 25 year old amongst PAC 12 pussies? No. Because spite is a powerful drug. Ask Jerod Mayo. It just landed him the Head Coaching position for the New England Patriots.

I am jumping on the Bo train in large part due to my ever longing need to be right over my Co-hosts, but also it fits the draft plan. Allow me to put on my internet GM cap and play Facebook mock draft for a minute.

  • Trade back from 3

    • The Giants at 6. The Falcons at 8 seem like nice trade partners here. There will be a top 3 QB or MVH JR. on the board. The Patriots will receive calls. Maybe one is from old friend Bill Belichick. Collect yourself some draft capital and at 6 or 8 select one of the top 2 OT. Joe Alt from Notre Dame or Olumuyiwa Fashanu from Penn State. Both are considered franchise LTs. With so much uncertainty at the top of the draft this is as safe of a position you can hope for with the most immediate impact on your team outside of the QB position. (Some will argue MVH/ WR here. I disagree). Establish the rebuild from the inside out.

  • Draft Bo Nix at 35

    • You may need to move up into the late 1st to snag Bo. It would be smart to regardless for the 5th year option. Similar to how Baltimore moved up to draft Lamar Jackson at 32. Good thing you acquired all that capital from Atlanta.

      TRADE ALERT

      Atlanta Falcons Trade: 1:8, 2:43, 2025 1st-round Pick

New England Patriots Trade: 1:3 SOURCE

I’m firm on not taking a QB at #3. You want to give me examples of guys better than Bo Nix that I’ve never heard of, be my guest, but the path for long term success starts up front. I’d sign a veteran QB and let Nix or whoever sit for a year or 2. The track record for this path is far superior than reaching for a QB top 5 with nothing around him. That Patriots did it to Mac Jones he wasn’t selected until 15th. Guys like, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Hurts, Jordan Love all sat and found success. I want a guy passed up with a chip on his shoulder and a solid foundation around him.

There a million factors to drafting a QB and it working out for a team. I’m choosing to incorporate spite in my decision making here, maybe you and the Patriots should consider it to. Bo certainly Knows.
