Are the Celtics better with out Jaylen Brown?

The Celtics have found a bit of a groove as of late specifically Jayson Tatum. Tatum is playing great. His shot is finally dropping kind of, but it’s more than that. He had a great night as a distributor against Toronto, he’s active on the glass, his defense as remained consistent, and get this.. He’s not bitching AS MUCH at the refs. He still bitches just not every single time he misses a lay up.

As a team they look much improved as well. Just the eye test alone tells you it’s better basketball being played out there. They have held 3 of their last 4 opponents to under 90 points. They are winning rebound battles and points in the paint! Their assists levels are up in the 20’s. Contributions from the bench are consistent in Shroder, Richardson, Romeo, with a sprinkle of Nesmith.

All that being said it has nothing to do with Jaylen Brown not being in the line up. The Celtics signature win this year came against at the time the #1 team in the league the Miami Heat. Jaylen Brown played most of that game until suffering the hamstring injury. Here’s the bottom line. The team is buying in. Maybe it was the fist fight “team meeting” in Orlando, maybe it’s Udoka, but it aint the fact they are missing Brown. Jaylen Brown is a bonafide All-Star averaging almost 27 points a game who at multiple stretches over his career has been the best player on the team. They are better when he is available to play.

I will say this. He will have to adjust as the rest of the team has adjusted to the team basketball they find themselves playing. On both ends of the floor. And he will have to accept that the offense is running nicely through Jayson Tatum. If he can find his role as an off ball shooter for Tatum AND their #1 option with Tatum off the court the Celtics are in business. Sure, that’s easier said than done given this team’s history and the fact the the Jays are still just 24 and 25. Do people forget that?

Full turn here. Enough of the Jaylen and Jayson can’t play well together. They are ranked in the top of the league as a duo per some nerd stats.

Yes, when you look at it there is a lot of “your turn” “my turn” shit and that needs to evolve. I just believe it will. They are young players learning how to win. Jaylen Brown has made leaps every year there is no reason to think he won’t continue to improve and Jayson Tatum is coming into his own as an all around offensive player. Bottom line, if I see one more mock draft sending Jaylen out the door for another unproven 25 year old I’m going to snap. And don’t even fucking dare mention Ben Simmons to me.
