A Celtics thought

The Celtics are a storied franchise, one of the original franchises in the NBA they have 17 championships and one huge problem. They have retired way too many numbers and I think this is why it is difficult getting some of these top free agents to come in.

When free agency hits I think one of the reasons these players don’t want to come to Boston is because they won’t be able to wear their number anymore, obviously there is more than just that but I think that is a factor. When you have won a championship in almost every decade and have countless hall of famers from your organization, its inevitable to retire said numbers. But, with the Celtics their are too many and if you ever took your kids to a game and they looked up and said Dad who wore 21? I don’t think any of us would be able to answer that unless we googled it. (Bill Sharman. Idiots)

I also feel that the NBA has some of the most egotistical players in any of the 4 leagues that brand them selves off of their numbers and for them to go to a franchise where they can not wear that number anymore would “hurt” their brand. I think the Celtics should take a page out of the NFL. Make a ring of honor and also open up a Celtics Hall of Fame so we can see the names around the arena and learn more about these players while opening up these numbers.

Wyc Grousbeck should make it a priority to buy property around the garden and open up a hall and get the legends of the Celtics story out for the people to see and also help lure free agents to Boston so they can wear their number they had while growing up.
