Goodell clowns the NFL again
Should the top seeds win in the AFC Divisional Round playoff games, the Chiefs would be headed to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to face the Buffalo Bills. SOURCE
It was determined that due to the no contest between the Bengals and Bills after Damar Hamlin’s injury that the AFC Championship game would be held at a neutral site. Now we understand how it was done and why. Want to take a guess?
NBC Sports’ Peter King reported the vote to approve a neutral-site game wasn’t unanimous. Three-fourths (24) of NFL owners had to approve the plan, and King said it received 25 yes votes.
Three no votes were cast by the Bengals, Dolphins and Bears, King reported, while the Chiefs, Bills, Raiders and Chargers abstained. ESPN’s Seth Wickersham reported that Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn “urged teams to vote against the scenarios. Her reasoning stemmed from the timing of a rule change in this scenario away from the standard of winning percentages.”
“A league source said the Chiefs indicated they wanted an outdoor site on natural grass,” Jones wrote. “They ended up getting a covered stadium on turf.”
So, clearly the opinion of the teams involved had zero bearing on what the conclusion should be or where the game should be held. What could it be?
Mercedes-Benz Stadium was picked for a few reasons. Jones reported the 71,000-seat stadium has “far more premium seats than either Arrowhead or Highmark (stadiums), which means a greater ticket revenue for the game even if it winds up getting split between the two teams.”
The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin noted weather shouldn’t be an issue for the game (it’s a domed stadium) or fans traveling to Atlanta. WeatherSpark.com said Atlanta’s “daily high temperatures are around 53°F, rarely falling below 39°F or exceeding 66°F.”
Oh, no shit?! Money? Revenue was the reason? Go fucking figure. The NFL owners the the ABSOLUTE WORST. Goodell is the $50 million dollar stooge for these greedy fucks. What a sham this AFC championship will be. Considering the reasoning behind this was one of their players nearly dieing on the field and for them to yet again choose a non transparent decision purely based on revenue and not honoring the game is typical, but deeply dissapointing.
Whether it be Cheifs, Bills, or Bengals these are the three best teams in the AFC and honestly the three teams with the greatest chance at a superbowl not counting San Fran. Now, it’s cheapened an indoor game in one of the most pathetic fan base cities this league has to offer. Fuck Goodell. Fuck the NFL owners. I’m now rooting for Jacksonville just so these greedy cunts can’t watch those ratings and revenue take a dip. Clowns.
