3’s a crowd. 4’s a party

Jeremy Swayman has made his presence known. The first two starts for the 22 year old could be described as dazzling. He’s stopped 71 of 75 shots. The latest barrage coming from the division leading and perennial thorn in the bruins side, Washington Capitals. And then of course we have the dark lord Vladar who has been more than adequate as the team’s fill in net minder in Rask and Halak’s absence. Vladar carries a save % of .922 and a 2-1-1 record.

Speaking of the old guard. Halak caught the vid and frankly has been exposed as the aging veteran that he is in Tuukka’s extended absence’s dating back to the bubble. Not holding anything against Halak. He is good for a flash here and there, but has taken a step back from the outstanding play we say in 2018.

Where’s Tuukka? Tuukka has been out for an extended spring break. Like the one I took my senior year when I gave zero fucks. Sound familiar? Is that too harsh? I know the Tuukka police are out in full force in defense of the Bruins all time greatest goalie. Maybe they should be, but no one should be scoffing at the idea about moving on from Tuukka with what we have seen from the kids.

I’m not here to debate the merits of one Tuukka Rask and his alleged overly sensitive bowls in big moments. Tuukka Rask is the best goalie in Bruins history. One of the best of his generation. He gives the Bruins the best chance to win when he is healthy and engaged. My point is what are the Bruin’s chances to win currently constructed? This is a thought about the state of the team and it’s future.

You made your first step towards the youth movement with your defense this year. The young wingers have also been given opportunities with out much success. Looking at you DeBrusk. It’s time to consider the goalie position. With Tuukka back next year you look at Vladar as your back up which is fine, but you clog up the pipeline for Swayman and for how long? What kind of deal is The Mercurial one looking for? Think of the holes that could be filled with Rask’s $7.5 million in salary. (Insert Ray’s mom joke). Not to mention the track record of high paid goalies winning Stanley Cups aint great. It’s more than that though. It’s turning the next page. The Bruins could make the decision to do that right now.

Sorry to the chief Tuukka’s out there, but how much leeway does he get this season? The Bruins should take a page out of Tampa’s book and throw Tuukka on the Long Term Injury List, clear $7.5 million, bring in some much needed help on the roster, and potentially even land a building block for the future. OR let Rask work out this back problem on the front 9 and hope there isn’t a flare up in an elimination game.

Here’s the point. Right now you have 4 professional goalies on your roster and the only party is a Tuukka’s pool on road trips. (Allegedly) The Bruins have will have a decision to make at goalie eventually. You let Chara walk for god sake saying goodbye Tuukka Rask should be the next decision for the Bruins next chapter.
