Have a night Kemba

Big boy win for the C’s last night as my co host, Dr. Big Mac likes to say. Kemba came into the game shot out of a cannon. He finished with 32 4 and 4 and a +13. He was dipping into his bag and everything was coming out clean. One of those nights. I love that it wasn’t all scoring either. He had a slick behind the back assist to TT and drew not 1 but 2 charges on Devin Booker who had his worst game of the season.

I just look at Kemba as a guy who needs the ball in his hands and the offense running through him. he can really get cooking if that is the situation. That’s the role he has played his entire career. One problem. It’s not the role he needs to play here in Boston.

When the Celtics have everything clicking nobody is in that role. Tatum and Jaylen, certainly not Smart. I think Kemba is the only guy who really thrives in that ball dominant position. Don’t get me wrong obviously when Tatum is on he has the ball and same with Jaylen, but it’s more of a function of the offense. With Kemba it’s high pick and roll, let me show you some handle and decide what I’m going to do. Which is fantastic and on night where they need that it’s super important. Like against Phoenix.

I like Kemba a lot. I really want him to succeed in Boston. He’s a super likable player and a great teammate. I hope and believe that in the playoffs he can be just as affective as a guy functioning in the offense collecting open shots off of Jaylen and Jayson. If he can become as good in that role and he is in the ball dominant role then the C’s are really cooking with gas.
