head coach at Penn State in 2012. In two seasons, the Nittany Lions went 15-9 under O’Brien.
2014 as the head coach of the Houston Texans. Houston won the AFC South four times with O’Brien, who was fired in his seventh season with the team after Week 4. He had a 52-48 record with four playoff appearances while with the Texans.
Under O’Brien, Alabama averaged 41.1 points during the 2022 season (fourth in the nation) and scored 39.9 points per game in 2021 (ranking sixth).
ATHLETIC - The way Belichick looks at it, the Patriots don’t need someone to completely overhaul the offense as an outsider might. They need someone to run a sound unit and cut down on penalties, turnovers and three-and-outs. The goal isn’t necessarily the top-10 unit that McDaniels put together, but rather a competent, average to slightly above-average group. And he also needs to get the most out of quarterback Mac Jones.
