Celtics talk (20 minutes)
-As of today the Celtics are 13-13 the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and if the playoffs started today they would be in the play in game. We all know Christmas is the unofficial start of the regular season for the NBA, what expectations do you have for this team right now?
-Jaylen Brown has only played in 13 games this season, in those games he is averaging 21.4 points 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists, without Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum averages 24.3 points 7.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists. 2 part question, do you think this team is where it is due to the injury to Jaylen Brown early? Do you think Jayson Tatum would be better without Jaylen Brown?
-Their next 7 games are a doooooosey, @Suns, Bucks, Warriors, Knicks, 76ers, Cavs, @Bucks Christmas Day. I can see them going 1-6 maybe 2-5 in this stretch. If they do fall to 14-19 losing to the top teams in the West and East will that be the icing on the cake for Brad to blow it up?
- Here is some happy news, on December 8th Damian Lillard is reportedly interested in playing with the Celtics, Lillard has come out and said he really would like to play with Jaylen Brown, Kevin Pelton, an NBA insider whipped up a trade proposal that would be intriguing to the Blazers and keeps Jaylen, Marcus and Robert Williams.
The structure on Boston’s end includes Juancho Hernangomez, Al Horford, Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard, and Dennis Schroder for players.
It also includes a 2022 first-round pick, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2026 first-round pick (top-10 protected in 2026, top-4 protected for 2027, and unprotected for 2028), and a 2028 first-round pick (top-4 protected in 2028 if the previous pick conveys in 2026; it converts to 2028 second-round pick if not conveyed) for draft assets.
In return, the Celtics get Damian Lillard, CJ Elleby, Ben McLemore, Tony Snell, and Cody Zeller.
-This is a pipe dream and one that would get green teamers to suck Brad Steven’s dick till the day he dies. At this point in the early season we can see that this team just doesn’t have the making of a championship contender, everyone should be available and Brad can’t do what Danny did in the past and hold on to assets to long that their value expires. Everyone but Tatum should be available and Tatum should have input on what Brad does, this is the NBA and to keep your superstar happy you build around him with players that will make him better and help bring out the best in them.
-With almost a 1/4 of the season gone, where do you see this team finishing?
Headlines with the Obvious One
- The Celtics were dealt back to back losses first against the Lakers on Tuesday losing 117-102. Celtics led at half and then fell apart. Jayson Tatum led the C’s with 34 points and 8 rebounds in a losing effort. On Wednesday the Clippers got the best of the Celtics 114-111. Celtics were down at 21 points at one point but a late rally came up short. Jayson Tatum again was the leading scorer with 29 points and 10 rebounds. The Celtics next take on the Suns in Phoenix on Friday night.
- The Bruins lost in a shootout to the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 Patrice Bergeron the only goal scorer for the B’s, Jermey Swayman had 31 saves in the loss. The Bruins next play Edmonton on the road while we record on Thursday and finish up their Canadian trip on Saturday against the Calgary Flames.
-The Arizona Coyotes were almost locked out of Gila River Arena for outstanding bills. The team on Thursday paid off their debt and will be allowed to play their games in the arena.
-The College Football Playoff is set, Alabama (1) takes on Cincinnati (4) on December 31st at 3:30, the second game we have Michigan (2) taking on Georgia (3) for the late game at 7:30
-And finally the Queen will tell us who Time Magazine awarded athlete of the year for 2021. Stay tuned
This has been headlines with the Obvious One
Bak 2 Basics
Bruins (20 minutes)
-12-8-2 which is good for 5th in the Atlantic division, now they have also played 5 less games than the top team in Toronto who is 18-7-2. This is an older team which means they are going to be playing a packed back half of the season. It is the 13th oldest team in the league. Does playing more back to backs help or hurt this team, the lack of games so far I feel like they haven’t been able to gel since there are a lot of new faces on the team.
-Bill, you have been all over the fire Sweeney train. What has he done or hasn’t done that you want his head?
-If you were the Gm what is the one player you would like to see go for a nice return, you stated in your opening take that Sweeney needs to make a tough decision and trade off a fan favorite, who would it be?
-Linus Ullmark has been a really bad signing, with a cap hit of $5 million. Tuukka has been on the ice (could say practicing) with the Bruins is this one of the most cluster fuck decisions we have seen by any Boston team? If not what was because I can’t think of any situation quite as bad as this one.
-Tuukka comes back you now have 3 goalies, is Linus’s contract an easy one to move for a guy who is 5-4, 24 goals against with a .911 save %.
-Besides Charlie McAvoy, is part of the Bruins struggles the lack of skilled defenseman on this roster?
-If its another 2nd round exit this year, do you blow it up?
-where do you see the bruins finishing this season?
College Football Playoff(5minutes)
-We are all sports guys, I know we don’t follow College football religiously but its a big around the nation. Who you got?
Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, Cincinnati
-If Alabama destroys Cincinnati like we all think is going to happen, how bad will that be for teams not in the power 5 conferences.
-Do you like the college football playoffs?
Time Magazine Athlete of the year (2 minutes)
-Bill you ruined our afternoon, go ahead and let the people know who Time Magazine gave this award too and why.
