Wrastling with the Doughboy : Rumble Talk

It's January and if you are a wrestling fan you know what that means, Royal Rumble is right around the corner. One of my favorite pay per view events since I was a kid was watching the Rumble. 30 men and now 30 women battle it out for a chance to main event at WrestleMania. Like everything the WWE has done for the past 5 years, the Rumble has gotten stale, very predictable, but this year we have a shimmer of hope that this could be one of the best Rumbles in quite some time.

It all started with AEW breaking down that 4th wall. For you non wrestling fans the 4th wall is acknowledging other promotions exists and working with them. AEW did that with New Japan Pro Wrestling, Impact Wrestling, and Ring of Honor. Bringing in stars from those promotions and having their talent go wrestle for them was something unheard of and hasn’t been done since the 90’s. It was a way for fans to finally see the well what if AEW took on Impact who would win. Although AEW used this relationship to put Kenny Omega over the moon winning every title from promotions to be the Grand Champion. But since Kenny Omega lost the title to Christian Cage the working relationship with Impact Wrestling has really gone away. The Good Brothers haven’t been on Dynamite and you haven’t seen that cross promotion any more.

This could be because the WWE is now in play, after releasing over 100 superstars in the past year and a half and through injuries of major stars WWE has been light on the talent landscape. When they announced the first 15 women in the Rumble it was a throwback The Bellas, Michelle McCool, Lita and then Mickie James. If you don’t know Mickie James is employed by Impact Wrestling. She is also the Knockouts Champion currently, WWE acknowledged that when they announced her, something they never do is talk about rival promotions. Now its being speculated that for the mens side there could be someone from another company, that is actively wrestling that could be a surprise entrant. Here are a few that I think it could be, and a few that I wish it would be but know there isn’t a chance in hell.

3 that I think it will be : Chris Jericho (1)

Who is the most well known wrestler that is out there today, that didn’t burn their bridge leaving the WWE? Chris Jericho has already worked in some fashion with WWE while being with AEW when he did the Stone Cold Podcast. That was the first time AEW and WWE did some sort of cross promotion. This would be bigger and for both companies it could be huge and break the internet in my opinion. Tony Khan and Vince McMahon working together would be a dream for every wrestling fan.

Moose (2)

Impact World Champion

For this to make people talk the next day, you need a star, you need someone that’s never worked for WWE but have wanted them too since Vince can still make stars out of people. So, you have the Knockouts Champ why not bring over the Impact Champ. Moose is Vince McMahons wet dream, a big dude that when you look at you know damn well he could kill anyone he gets in the ring with. Let him have a lengthy run in the Rumble, make the final 4 and that helps Impact out in the process that their guy lasted to the final 4 so now you have fans that never watched Impact say to themselves, I want to see what this guy does on his show. Win Win for both companies.

Marty Scrull (3)

At one time he was the hottest free agent in wrestling, that was until he was accused of sexual assault back in 2020, since then he has vanished after being let go from Ring of Honor. He has finally resurfaced and has been wrestling for CWA in Puerto Rico. The whole sexual assault is a sticky situation of a he said she said thing but if time makes people forget why wouldn’t Vince go after the Elite’s best friend and one they pushed a side when he needed them most.

Here are 3 that are pipe dreams that I KNOW WON’T HAPPEN but can’t I wish. CM Punk, that arena would explode if they heard Cult of Personality play, CM Punk coming back after 7 years, after a terrible breakup with the WWE and lawsuits. It would stun the wrestling community.

Jon Moxley aka Dean Ambrose (2) it has been noted that when Jon went to rehab for alcohol abuse the WWE was the one to pay the bill and send him for the help he needed. What a payback that would be as a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble. A nod to Vince for helping him get back on his feet since has a family now and he is being advertised for upcoming shows for AEW so he is coming back.

MJF (3) staying with the AEW pipe dreams, the biggest prick in the world coming out in his scarf to be entrant 30 in the Royal Rumble, just imagine the pop that would get. He is currently one of the biggest stars in the wrestling world. Why not make him known to WWE fans, especially before he becomes a free agent.
