Roger Goodell is in a lose lose situation

Anyone that’s a sports fan knows what happened last night on Monday Night Football between the Bengals and Bills. Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, made a routine tackle on Tee Higgins. He got up and immediately collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. After 10 minutes of CPR and a defibrillator he was brought back and rushed to the University of Cincinnati Hospital where, as of writing this now, he is in critical condition.

Every fan base from all 32 teams have been pouring out with thoughts and prayers and even donations to Hamlin’s toy drive where it has exceeded over $4 million dollars. But with all that being said nothing from the NFL office has come out to say what they will do with this game and week 18’s Bills game. I think Roger Goodell is again going to come out looking like a villain.

The Buffalo Bills were entering the game last night trying to keep pace with the Chiefs and that crucial 1st round bye in the playoffs. The Bengals were looking to play spoiler and keep ahead of the Ravens for the AFC North and maybe with some help get the 2 seed. With the game not being played and no other word out of New York on what is going to happen the standings show that it wasn’t even played. So what now?

Reports are coming out of every corner you want to look and sports radio is in a frenzy listing all the conspiracy theories they hear. Some of the realistic ones that I heard was the game would be forfeited by the Bills and we move on to this weekend as planned. Some reports are saying the Bills may not play this weekend depending on the health of Hamlin. The players heads wouldn’t be in the game wondering what’s going on with their teammate back in Cincinnati. What ever Goodell decides no one will be happy.

If the Bills forfeit both games, the Patriots are in the playoffs and have an extra bye week to prepare for Wildcard Weekend.

Teams that would be pissed: Dolphins and Steelers. Possibly even the Raiders depending on how things shake out.

Talk about a team that would be crucified over this, “of course the Patriots get in without having to play, those cheaters.” -every NFL viewer that isn’t a Patriots fan.

The Steelers are on a hot streak, in their last 8 they are 6-2. The Dolphins are on the other side of that with Tua’s concussion issues. With both teams fighting for the 7 seed fans would be outraged and call for Goodell’s head.

If the Bills and Bengals resume play after week 18 and every thing gets pushed back a week so they can play, now those teams would be pissed because they have to play while everyone else gets a bye week. What if Bills fall to the 2 seed, Bengals the 3 seed. Now they don’t have the rest like everyone else does. Those fan bases call erroneous and call for Goodell’s head.

Obviously Hamlin’s health is the most important thing out of all of this. But, the season will go on and with playoff implications and obviously money on the line for owners it will be interesting to see what Roger Goodell does and the blow back he gets from it. Like I said, no matter what he chooses to do someone’s going to be pissed at his decision.
