Kraft needs to hire Belichick’s replacement
After another anemic performance from the offense on Monday night it’s clear Matt Patricia is not the answer at OC. Belichick earned the right to take a shot at this unique solution for offensive leadership that was 100% doomed to fail directly from the jump. Three years post Brady, after Cam Newton, not making the Bills punt over 2 games, and now the Patricia- Judge shit show he has lost that right.
Kraft needs to identify Belichick’s predecessor and hire him. Not immediately. The new HC of the Patriots should be the new OC for the Pats in 2023. I wouldn’t completely put it past Belichick to find himself a new OC. He generally is open to correcting his own mistakes, but something tells me this is different. He has surrounded himself with sickafants and sons for a coaching staff. It’s a little harder to ship your best boat buddy out of town than nobody. Still, I don’t put it past him.
Given the more likely scenario of push back from Bill, Kraft needs to step in. Bring me a coach with his own staff and a system that suits your young quarterback. The obviously and most vocal choice is Bill O’Brien. That’s where the list will start and end for this blog. I really don’t care who it is as long as they are innovative and/or established. Belichick in a vacuum is still one of the best coaches in the league. He just has too much power and seemingly has spread himself too thin. He’s too good to fire, his sons are on the staff, he’s extremely comfortable in New England, and with Shula’s record a couple years away I find it hard to believe he’s going anywhere. So, what a perfect opportunity to open the runaway for the heir apparent for the most winningest coach in NFL history? With all that pressure mounting for the next guy lets get him in here to plant a flag and manufacture a peaceful transition of power. I believe Belichick has been trying to create that himself, but that pesky nepotism has gotten in the way. It’s up to ownership.
Many are going to say the Patriots making the playoffs this year will lessen the chance of this happening. Fuck that. The sample size of suck is big enough to know the change is needed. And by sample size I mean the walking ball of blow that physically is Patricia. Dude just hasn’t earned a headset. Even his tenure as DC for the Pats can be criticized heavily. Send him, his nerd Evan Rothstein, and their rocket scientist brains up stairs if Bill needs to keep his belly buddy around. Beyond that bring me the next man up for Belichick and let him handle the offense.
