Mac Jones screwed Bill Belichick
Apparently, all Bill Belichick needed was Jacoby Brissett .
The Patriots went out on Sunday and defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 16 to 10 in what was the epitome of a Bill Belichick operation. Lead by opportunistic, good tackling, stout, and at times in impenetrable defense. A Special teams unit that came through in the kicking game as well as coverage with a fumble caused by the highest paid long snapper in NFL history thanks to Belichick himself and recovered by the Pats. A conservative, efficient, pointed offense lead by the running game and a mostly invisible quarterback. No turnovers and only five non impactful penalties for just 40 yards .
These are the hallmarks of a Bill Belichick run team. It's the way he was trying to get them to win for the past five seasons post Brady. That’s the kind of film session that he slips into when he needs to get all pry for his young boo. Apparently all he needed was Big Black Hoyer taking snaps behind center. (And Perhaps not isolate and alienate yourself for the past decade or so only hiring your bobo buddies from inside the circle of trust creating dysfunction and spite across the franchise)
It's really no surprise to see this style of play from the Jerod Mayo lead Patriots Mayo spent his entire career under Bill Belichick as a player and a coach. Of course, those characteristics are going to embed in a guy like Mayo who comes from the defensive side of the ball. But, also basically the entire organization looks the same minus some offensive figureheads in Alex Van Pelt first and foremost. But, you can throw Ben McAdoo in there or T.C. McCartney, Patricia’s lead nerd Evan Rothstein too you want. Although I think most of them are there in an abundance of caution and hope not to fuck up Drake Maye. Bottom line, Offensive Head Coach, Alex Van Pelt wants to play the same way Bill Belichick wanted to play. Run, run, run, run, run, run, run. Kind of like what they try to do with the walking Nutsack of Patricia and Judge, except Alex Van Pelt actually had more than half a dozen plays to run.
Demarcus Covington is running Mayo’s defense which is Bill’s defense. The same scheme and concepts Mayo learned as a player, taught as a Line backers coach, and implemented as the defacto defensive coordinator when Stevie Belichick was too ascared to run the meetings, but I digress. It all looks the same. The common denominator of change is not Belichick, it’s Mac Jones.
As the one time captain of the Mac Jones club I’d like to congratulate myself for being admitting when I was wrong. Even though I wasn’t wrong about Mac Jones. He was fine. They porked him. They porked him hard hiring Matt Patricia and Joe Judge to run the offense. A porking 101 giving the kid 3 playbooks to learn in his first 3 seasons. And in return he mentally porked himself which really porked the team and by the laws of porking it all came back to pork Belichick right in the ass and clear out of New England.
Imagine if Mac Jones just doesn’t throw the worst interception I’ve ever seen in Germany vs. the Colts? I’m of the belief that with that win, Bill Belichick still would be the coach of the Patriots this year. They’d be chasing Shula and setting in motion the succession to Jerod Mayo. Just as they planned it. But no. Instead the decision to fire Belichick was made right there in Deutschland.
Let’s not forget. Last offseason, Belichick wanted Baker Mayfield. He was done with Mac Jones. And Mac Jones was done with him. You’re going to tell me Billy Obrien could not have gotten this team a couple more wins with Baker Mayfield over Mac Jones? That’s just a false statement based on the result of week 1 with Jacoby Brissett.
This is the same team, same scheme, same mentality, but a little less mean and a lot less bitchy tennis brat. Mac Jones screwed Bill Belichick.
