The Red Sox are going to Mash

Well would you look at that. A thought on baseball. This little nugget has been rattling around in my head since Monday’s OH! Dark 30 Baseball Show. The Obvious One had a very negative take on the Red Sox predictions for the season. And where normally I would jump on this hate train as baseball is #deadtome, but I have decided to be optimistic about this Red Sox season. And for good reason I believe.

The pitching unquestionably is still a question mark, but in the same breathe it is unquestionable improved. Especially the bullpen. If you get a healthy Ottavino and Matt Barnes locked into their roles with Darwinson Hernandesz and Sawmura behind them with something to prove I think you have a shot an not be a useless pile of white dog shit like in years past. The rotation is going to have to prove it to me, but their is a pool of young potential in the bottom 4 and 5 holes and the veterans should be able to hold down a mid to high 3 ERA. And that’s all it should take to be competitive because this lineup is going to mash.

Let’s start here. Your 9th hitter should slug for 35 dongs this season. 250 strike outs? Sure, that’s a possibility too, but again it’s your 9th hitter. It will be tough to find a better 1 - 5 lineup if these guys hit their potential.

2B Kike Hernandez

CF Alex Vergdugo

DH J.D. Martinez

SS Xander Boegarts

3B Raf Devers

That’s 130 HR’s 445 RBI’s and 765 HITS based on 2019 stats. That’s basically what the Marlins hit last year. So suck it Big Mac. This team is going to be sneaky competitive. Now if they could just tweak the actual game so it’s remotely watchable we’d be cooking with gas. Until then? Ding Dong.
