It’s preseason but you can’t escape the eye test

Game 2 is finally over and done with after a week of fights and knock out blows, Im excited to move on to the Raiders where we have a better relationship with the head coach and won’t let a shit storm happen every day. But what did we get out of the 2nd preseason game, the one where I was dragged through the mud on social media because of one of the biggest things I noticed, this offense isn’t good.

Before we get there lets paint a picture for all of you. You’re back in high school and your varsity team is scrimmaging the jv team. You should blow them out in every aspect of the game, instead you don’t look like you are gelling, lots of miscues and the jv squad getting to the qb with ease. You would think your varsity team will have a bad year, no arguments right? Well that’s what I took out of the 1st team offense taking on the Panthers 2nd team defense.

The first thing I noticed is that this offensive line looks lost, defenders getting to the back field quick, a position that was suppose to be addressed with Cole Strange looks like they took a giant leap backwards this year. Trent Brown and David Andrews are the only anchors they have on the line the rest are shaky and need more reps before Miami, week 1. The next problem I had was with Mac and the receivers. All offseason you heard how Mac was flying around the country holding camps with his wide outs to build chemistry which any fan would be astatic about, instead we get miscues and if it wasn’t for the bomb to Nelson Aghlor for 45 yards Mac would have had a shitty stat line which would have looked like 3/8 for 16 yards (woof). Last year he was ripped for not being able to throw down field, he would dink and dunk for short yards and bring us to 3rd and short.

With the last preseason game Friday and another week of joint practices I need to see Mac and the first team get a lot of reps. Using the eye test they aren’t ready for Miami week 1, and I saw a lot of people post, “why would we show Miami what we will do week 1.” which I respect but you shouldn’t be throwing behind your receivers or air mailing passes this late into camp. Hopefully the scent of McDaniels will bring Mac to last year and have him fix all the mistakes we have been seeing him have. What are your thoughts after 2 preseason games?
