Dr. BigMac’s Top 5- Nickelodeon Shows
I am on vacation and have a vast amount of time on my hand. I have been watching shows that have been in my Que. Today’s movie on Hulu was The Orange Years : The Nickelodeon Story. Yes, I know that this came out 3 years ago like I said I am busy. So after watching this and all the nostalgia has gone away I am trying to get it back, with my top 5 Nickelodeon Shows.
5. Are You Afraid of the Dark? When I started watching this it was probably 93-94 ish so I was 9 and this show scared the shit out of me. Did it stop me from watching it every Friday night? Nope. Were all the shows scary, no they had some terrible ones but they did have some bangers. They started every episode off the same, sitting around a camp fire and everyone has a story to tell and then they would whip out that bag of sand and the fire would change colors and let the scaring begin. I have never gone back to watch any of these, memories alone bring me to the decision to have it as a top 5 show. If I wanted to go down a rabbit hole and head to YouTube the disappointment would ruin my childhood.
4. Doug - One of the best cartoons on Nickelodeon was Doug. The adventures of a boy with his friend Skeeter Valentine, his crush Patti Mayonnaise, and the school bully Roger Klotz. I was drawn to Doug just the classic episodes his alter ego of Quailman. His love for the Beets (music group). The best part is looking back at this show and all the adult humor they threw in it that didn’t catch on to.
3. All That - The Saturday Night Live kids version. Obviously at a young age you’re not staying up to watch that but on Nickelodeon on Friday night you can watch All That and did they have some great talent and skits. Good Burger, Everyday French with Pierre Escargot, Vital Information, Ask Ashley, and Coach Creeton. The actors that turned out to be stars like Amanda Bynes, Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson, Danny Tamberreli, Drake Bell, Lori Beth Denberg, and Nick Cannon. Great show, great early cast that when it got older they tried to keep it going but just like Saturday Night Live you can’t beat the originals.
2. Guts - Do you have it? The competitive side of me would have given my left testicle to be on this show. I would always watch and think these kids are terrible, unathletic, and are only on the show cause their parents had money. The contests were ones where you couldn’t do at home, a lot of bungy jumping with jumping and trying to shoot a basketball in to a basketball hoop, the pool events where you had to pull your self across while going against the current. Then the absolute end the Aggro Crag. Run up a hill with different things coming down on you like rocks, rain and wind. You know I think I would still give my left nut to be on this show if they brought it back.
Salute Your Shorts- We run we jump we swim and play, we row and go on trips but the thing that last foreverrrrrr are our dear friendships! Banger of theme song. The show would come on when I got home from Rec which was a summer camp but not an over night camp so watching this it was some what relatable. The other big thing was Donkeylips, funny story in 6th grade I called a classmate who no joke looked exactly like him and he threw me across the room and I spilled all my Cheez Itz and got detention for it. Still to this day it was worth it, also I had my first Hollywood crush from this show. Heidi Lucas who played Dina, YUP loved her and her girly girl character. You always remember your first. My favorite character in the show was Budnick and his asshole self and how he treated Ug. I can’t believe this was only out for 2 seasons and how much of a cult classic it is.
This is my list don’t @ me
