Eliminate the DH

Shohei Ohtani is must watch TV. The guy is smashing dongs at 119 mph and slinging heat in the triple digits. In short Ohtani is a baseball player. All this talk about the NL acquiring the DH next season as a huge bargaining chip for the Player Association is bogus. Ya sure you get 15 extra players jobs in theory, fine. I propose you eliminate 15 player’s jobs and make these 5 inning pitching ballerinas step up to the plate.

The game of baseball needs a litany of changes. Fifteen more dudes smashing 30 bombs and striking out 200 times is not what we need. I need some natural athletes searching for contact on a hit and run actually successfully executing a bunt to move runners along and dare I see shorten up and drive one in from the opposite field? NL small ball is a far superior product than AL Home Run derby. It just is. Baseball is a mental game as much as physical on and off the field. The additional strategy with pitchers in the line up adds a layer of entertainment especially if the pitcher can actually swing a little. Think of when Madison Bumgardner was good. He was freaking electric.

I understand the first iteration of this rule would look like dog food with a clown nose. Pitchers flailing about, continuing to throw away the out because they collect their $30 million dollar salary on the specialized skill of destroying elbow tendons. If MLB hadn’t shriveled their balls in the 90’s with the rest of their players maybe they could tell these guys to shove it and pick up a bat.

P.S. This is probably a terrible idea, but for a sport that is #deadtome it’s time to see what kind of shit sticks to the wall.
