Imagine having to return $33 million worth of shit?
Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum could’ve been $33 million richer if he made one of three 2020-21 All-NBA teams, which were announced Tuesday. An All-NBA selection is part of some player’s contractual bonus.
Tatum, who made All-NBA Third Team last season, was left off this year’s list because he was eligible at both guard and forward in voting.
As a result, he was considered a forward in All-NBA voting after he received more votes at the position (69).
Clippers forward Paul George received more votes than Tatum at forward (89), and therefore took the last forward slot — rather than the guard spot that went to Nets point guard Kyrie Irving, whom Tatum had more votes than (61).
Both Tatum and Mitchell signed extensions this past offseason, and if they made All-NBA it would’ve equaled out to $196 million over four years. That number is now reduced to an estimated $163 million.
Shhiiiiiiiit. That’s a lot of money to miss out on because of technicality media ball washing. $33 Million?! Jayson Tatum signed that deal least season with the expectation fo making $196 Million over 4 years. If Tatum is anything like the rest of us he already had that cheddar spent! You can buy a lot of Jayson Tatum Potato chips with that kind of loot and don’t think for a second you wouldn’t have already spent that dough. Stop fooling yourselves, this is America we live in debt. Jeff Bezos gets to avoid taxes, divorce his wife, quit his job, and still be the richest guy in the world, by living in debt. It’s the new American dream.
However, when Jayson spent that money he didn’t have yet, I can just see it playing out. He’s sitting on his couch as the The All- NBA teams are announced and he gets that drop in his stomach. “My wife’s gunna kill me.” “How am I gunna sell a garage full of Jayson Tatum Ruffles” It’s like when your parents bought all the fundraiser candy because they were too hung over to take you around the neighborhood. Maybe, Jayson can get his buddy Kyrie to reach into his bullshit philanthropic soul and buy out the chip fiasco I’ve hypothetically put Tatum in. I doubt it. Saint Kyrie would never stoop to such corporate greed. Bottom line, Kyrie screwed him yet again. Thrice if you count the chips.
