Bruins linked to massive name in trade rumors

Boston Bruins

The Boston Bruins will be looking at any centerman that could be available to them over the next year. They aren't set up great this season, but it might take until next offseason to get anything significant done. While Hertl would be a long-term solution, Couture could be the veteran short-term solution the team could be looking for. He provides offense and strong defensive play, something the Bruins have enjoyed having down the middle in their top-six. Plus Couture, with retained salary, would be much cheaper to have on the roster and to acquire. SOURCE

Sign me the fuck up for this. The biggest discussion around this team was the lack of front line center with the departure of Bergeron and Krejci. We’ve seen it coming for years. This was the year to do something about it too. Bergeron and Krejci finally hang em up. You’ve got assets that can be move to make the salary work and names available on the market, instead Sweeney lets Bertuzzi walk, keeps 20 defensemen, pays both #1 goalies and does not a single thing to bolster the top 6. You want to tell me Couture or someone like him was always the plan I’ll tell you to quit licking rocks, but I’ll take it.

Logan Couture is still a force in the NHL.

The plus/minus aint great, but the Sharks suck. He’s a two way center with the offensive ability to create and finish. He’s a stop gap for what hopefully is a new wave of youth in Poitras and Beecher. I’m not saying burn another first round pick, but if you have to “sacrifice” one of these goalies say?
How do they get the deal done?

However, it's unclear if the Bruins would be open to pursuing Couture with his $8 million cap hit. Boston is projected to have just $429,166 in cap space, per CapFriendly, so the franchise would have to move some considerable assets if they hope to pursue Couture. The Bruins don't have many expensive offensive assets available to move, but some defenders could be expendable to free up some cap space.

Matt Grzelcyk is entering the final year of his contract with a cap hit worth nearly $3.7 million, and Derek Forbort also carries a $3 million cap hit that could be moved as he's entering the final year of his deal.

I don’t seeing happening for Gryzlyk and Forbort, but this shows you they have the salaries to dump purely on the defense. Throw Coyle, Ulmark, even Lindholm on the list if you want. Mid round pick? Sure. Lets get creative.

The Bruins have invested too much in Pastrnak and McAvoy to suck. They will continue to put competitive teams out there. This is the NHL. All it takes is a hot goalie and confident team with a couple high end talent pieces to make a run at the cup. If you’re gunna be in the mix. Be in the mix. Swing the deal Sweeney!
