Bring back the King of the 4th
The Celtics lead by Tatum and Brown are going to need just a little extra juice to win the Championship. To this point they lack a winning quotient. They may find it in time, but if you want to accelerate that process bring back the pipsqueak who single handily kept the Celtics competitive in their re-build and providing wild entertainment and a since of pride to be a Celtics fan.
Isiah Thomas gave quite literally everything he had for the Boston Celtics. Including is inspiring playoff run with a ravaged hip where he dropped 54 points vs the Wizards. He tragically lost his sister and came out to perform within mere days. He finished 5th in MVP voting as a 5’ 7” walking under dog. The only thing you can rag on him for was being so good he vaulted the Celtics to a contender opening the door for Kyrie Irving to agree to be traded in here in exchange for the King of the 4th. What a bitter sweet pill to swallow there. From one of the most beloved stories and players to root for to quite literally the most hateable athlete these eyes, but mostly ears were forced to endure in my 38 years of life. I’d rather poke myself in the eye with stick than listen to Kyrie Irving tell us he’s the smartest guy in the room after his latest YouTube lecture. Fuck Kyrie Irving. Thanks for that Isaiah.
The Celtics have one roster spot remaining as we head into the playoffs. Most reports have that saved for Neemias Queta who has performed admirably for this team as a back up big man. But, he’s not going to see a single minute of playing time with the addition of Tillman. And maybe Thomas won’t either, but perhaps he has a nugget of wisdom to pass along to the Jays. And crum of humility. Some poised advice on how to not completely fuck up the final possession of a close game. And maybe Pritchard rolls and ankle and we are witnessed to yet another all time story and performance from the little guy just when the Celtics need it most. The dude is averaging 33 - 3 - 6 in the G League. He aint completely cashed.
With this team being the odds on favorite to win the NBA Finals, it would be a fitting, I’ll be it sentimental, cap to the end of Pierce’s Big 3 to the final assentation of Tatum and Brown for Isaiah Thomas, King of the 4th and Captain of the Bridgies, to get a ring. And maybe, just maybe, doing right by someone who gave so much to you and continues to hold a tangible connection to your franchise and city will shed that little extra bit of juice or karma this squad needs to get over the hump. Bring him back, Brad.
