Belichick’s appearance on Tom Brady’s podcast is full a on Brady Boner
Belichick Segment starts at the 10 min mark.
"The greatest player. The greatest career. The great, great person. It was such an opportunity and an honor for me to coach Tom," Belichick said. "I guess it's got to end at some point. It's the greatest one ever. Congratulations, Tom."
I’m not crying, you’re crying. This ball washing by these grizzled goats is all we’ve been after for years. Give me all of this. In the shadow of one of the worst if not the very worst coaching performance in Belichick’s career I needed a shot in the arm of pure Patriots porn. Brady calls it quits for good this time and I guess that opened the door to let down the guards and wax poetic about their greatness and admiration for each other.
"For me, there's nobody I'd rather be associated with," he said. "From my standpoint, I think it's always a stupid conversation to say, 'Brady vs. Belichick' because, in my mind, that's not what a partnership is about."
Here’s my biggest take away from this. The split was relatively mutual. They operated at an extremely stressful and intense level for 20 years together. Most marriages don’t last that long. Tom’s didn’t. Bill’s didn’t. But together theirs did. It was built around kickin’ ass and taking names, and stealing signs, and stacking ‘Chips!
At the end Brady became pouty and diva-ish. He wanted a contract and Bill wanted a change. Who knows what crawled up Belichick’s back side specifically to push Brady to the edge, but after hearing them together on the podcast you could tell there was a level of amicability in the spilt. It was like two lovers who both knew the flame went out a while ago, but were hanging on for each other until enviably time won out. She always does. Still, couldn’t you have just given him the Brees contract Bill?
There is a point where Brady makes reference to the way Belichick prepared his teams hard and how Brady appreciated it so much that when he left he noticed it even more. If he wasn’t such a pussy and we could get the unfiltered version it would sound like this:
Brady - “Coach, you were a dick but I get it. When I got down to Tampa is was a clown show. That scully cap wearing drunk, Arians was running things like a circus. Even Gronk thought it was a joke.”
Belichick - “Snort. Ya, Thanks Tom. Bruce is a real turd”. “Mac Sucks”.
