Carmelo Anthony number retired?

What constitutes a player to have their number retired? The New York Knicks are considering retiring Carmelo Anthony’s number 7 and I think this has to be an extremely dumb move by the Knicks. First things first he’s not on the top 10 in the franchises games played or minutes played.

Next he isn’t even top 5 in points for the Knicks.

The furthest he ever took the Knicks was a 2nd round exit as the 1 seed. Carmelo is one of the biggest choke artists in the past 20 years. The guys he was drafted with have all won multiple titles and are first ballot hall of famers while Carmelo’s biggest accomplishment as a pro was winning a gold medal. This man number doesn’t deserve to hang with the Knicks greats.
