Chara retires and Sweeney gets lucky

Zdeno Chara has officially retired from the NHL. Thank god. I only say that because as soon as he was spotted around Warrior Ice Arena there was already talk he could come back and retire with the Bruins for one final season. I love big Z, but it just not what they need. And god knows Sweeney would have pulled the trigger.

Management is in full survival mode. Just playing out the string. I bet Sweeney is stashing cash under the ice for when they finally can his ass.

You bring back two 37 year olds to be your top 2 centers at albeit modest deals. (With dead money coming next year further hurting them). I don’t even mind the signings because Bergeron still has some left and I’ll assume Krejci does for argument sake. But, there is no Plan! No future. Bergeron and Krejci lead this team to at best a second round exit and then what?

Given the chance to add another 2011 championship member to this squad, Sweeney would have pulled the trigger in an instant. At least now they will either be forced to develop or move some pieces.

Chara played 1,000 games with the Bruins. Captain. Champion. Those were the days. God speed you giant sumabitch.
